CARNIVAL OF LITERATURES – the international festival for English-language literature focusing on authors from the Global South on the 15th and 16th of July 2016 in Berlin and Potsdam
Together with the the chairs of Literary and Cultural Studies at the Department of English and American Studies of the University of Potsdam the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN is currently establishing an international Anglophone literature festival.
The Carnival of Literatures in the year 2016 will bear the moniker Planet Crime and feature a wide variety of crime fiction from the Global South. The festival will take place on July 15th and 16th 2016 in WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN in Berlin-Neukölln and on the campus premises Neues Palais in Potsdam.
With stimulating readings and podium discussions, spoken word performances and live music, the CARNIVAL OF LITERATURES unfurls its literary network and discusses socially relevant topics from the North and South in the context of an interdependent world.
In the emancipatory and antiauthoritarian tradition of the carnival, the CARNIVAL OF LITERATURES establishes a discursive platform for critical analysis of universalized conceptions of culture and identity, and offers room for perspectives beyond Eurocentrism.
In a captivating indoor atmosphere on Friday in Berlin and breath-taking open-air atmosphere on Saturday in Potsdam, crime writers from countries including Denmark, Germany, Britain, India, Singapore and South Africa will present their controversial revelations about criminal offences and foul play.
PLANET CRIME – on the 15th and 16th of July 2016
The CARNIVAL OF LITERATURES is a cooperative event organized by Berlin’s WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN and the Institute for English and American Studies at POTSDAM UNIVERSITY.
